Our fore fathers or the generations before us had a far better reading culture than what we have today. Teachers or parents would require a child or young adult to read two books at most in a week and the latter would be expected to hand in a hand written review at the end of the week.

This was seen by the young people then as a punishment but it actually rendered them more responsible and thus prepared tem to be more responsible citizens in the future. How responsible you ask?  By then a young adult had to make sure they read a material well enough so as to give a detailed and well edited account to the parent or school instructor.

Therefore, when such a person evolves into an adult, they carry out their lifestyle in more responsible manner as compared to the rest of their counterparts who did not have a responsibility when they were younger. They therefore take responsibility over everything and everyone under them, including taking care of their children and spouses and jobs wholesomely.

Why The Reading Culture Is important?

A reading culture helps one master a language, be it a mother tongue or a second language. For example, in many former colonies, the language used at home is different from the language used at school. This is because most former colonies adapted to the languages of the colonialists as the official languages;

  • English
  • French
  • Portuguese
  • German

Then the developed countries on the other hand usually use the same language both home and at school but still have other languages they learn inform of subject lessons for example, in the U.S.A many students opt to learn Spanish as a language.

This takes us back to the reading culture point; that if one wishes to master a particular language then reading new material in this language weekly would be a great idea. A lot of reading makes the reader more familiar to the language’s characteristics and grammar thus perfection comes up gradually.

This is also a great way to create a career path because if someone perfects a language, then there are many opportunities that can come their way.
